Mohammad Haris overtakes Babar Azam's record in T20I cricket

On June 1, 2025, at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris delivered a scintillating performance, leading his team to a 3-0 T20I series sweep over Bangladesh.  Haris remained unbeaten with a remarkable 107 runs off just 46 balls, achieving a strike rate of 232.60.  His innings featured eight fours and seven sixes, earning him the Player of the Match award.

This century marked Haris as Pakistan's second-fastest T20I centurion, surpassing Babar Azam's previous record of 49 balls and Ahmed Shehzad's 58 balls.  The fastest T20I century for Pakistan remains Hasan Nawaz's 44-ball hundred against New Zealand in March 2025.

Fastest T20I century by Pakistan batters:

Balls Batter Opponent Venue Year

44 Hasan Nawaz New Zealand Auckland 2025

45 Mohammad Haris Bangladesh Lahore 2025

49 Babar Azam South Africa Centurion 2021

58 Ahmed Shehzad Bangladesh Dhaka 2014

58 Babar Azam New Zealand Lahore 2023

In the series decider, Pakistan faced a challenging target of 197 runs.  After an early setback with opener Sahibzada Farhan's dismissal, Haris, alongside Saim Ayub, stabilized the innings with a 92-run partnership.  Despite losing Saim for 45 runs, Haris continued his aggressive play, reaching his century in just 45 balls.  With contributions from Hasan Nawaz and captain Agha Salman, Pakistan comfortably chased down the target in 17.1 overs.

Haris's explosive batting not only secured the series victory but also highlighted his potential as a key player in Pakistan's T20 lineup.
